Skechers Burst Review: Air-Cooled Memory Foam Insoles in Every Shoe

Looking for a comfortable pair of sports shoes which are right on trend? I have done a bit of digging around and think that the Skechers Burst could be the right choice for you. Numerous reviews have raved about the line’s attractive design, comfortable shape, and breathability and wearers totally agree with the brand when they say these shoes are “easy wearing comfort”.

Skechers Burst

The Burst line comes in a variety of different designs and shapes making it certain that there is a choice for everyone in the market. But how do you know which one is the best for you – or even if anything in the Burst selection might be suitable? This article provides an overview of the different variations on offer, helping you make a choice which will be the right one.

Skechers Air-Cooled Memory Foam Insole

Those who know Skechers are already familiar with its highly-regarded memory foam technology. Inspired by the very same memory foam used in mattresses, its main aim is to provide the highest level of comfort. And it succeeds.

Within this line of memory foam technology products is the air-cooled memory foam insole. The purpose of the air-cooled memory foam is to allow for enhanced breathability for the feet. A great addition to a sports shoe! The insole also offers cushioned comfort meaning that users are not losing out in terms of luxury in comparison to other Skechers shoes.

A Different Burst of Style for Everyone

One category within the Burst line is athletics. This includes the women’s Skechers Burst TR shoe, which has a sporty style and an Air-Cooled Memory Foam insole. The black mesh fabric adds an extra touch of under the radar style. The male athletic shoe is the Donlen. The Donlen also includes the Air Cooled Memory Foam insole and there is a knit fabric upper to the shoe.

Sneakers are the go-to casual shoe for most wearers because of comfort (and Skechers Burst certainly has that covered) but also because of style. There are a number of snazzy styles available for the more fashion conscious. Up All Night boasts a modern style and comes with the tagline “the best never rest”. Its Air Cooled Memory Foam insole and Burst midsole are teamed with a mid-high top sneaker bootie shape. Skechers Men’s Burst TR Flinchton is a quality athletic offering in two different color schemes. Again, the Air Cooled Memory Foam insole adds the desired comfort.

Besides the Donlen, there is another option in the Burst line for the male market: Shinz. Shinz was produced with both style and comfort in mind. Its unique flat knit mesh fabric upper is eye-catching, as is its nearly seamless design. Once more, we also see the inclusion of the popular Air Cooled Memory Foam insole and Burst midsole.

Finally, there is a version of the Burst for young girls – Sparkle Bounce. It is constructed using a soft mesh fabric upper with Burst material midsole and Air Cooled Memory Foam insole.

High Comfort Levels in a Shoe

We have already discussed the inclusion of the Air Cooled Memory Foam insole and how this increases the comfort levels of Burst wearers. Besides the technology itself, it is also worth mentioning the insole is actually removable. This is good for people with ankle and pronation problems as they are able to make any necessary adjustments.

However, there are other little facets of the range that also contribute to the positive reviews of the shoe. If you are going to wear a pair of shoes for sports, or even if you just want to walk around in them a lot, you are probably looking for something that will keep your feet dry. There is very little more uncomfortable than having wet feet all day! The open knit mesh found on some of the Burst options actually keep the shoe well-ventilated, not completely eliminating but helping with the problem of sweaty feet.

The Burst shoes are lightweight meaning it is easier to walk or play sport in them, also for longer periods of time. Also helping active wearers is the excellent arch support and the stability provided by the midsole. In addition are the cushioned collar, textile lining, and plush tongue.

Skechers Burst – The Best Active Shoes on the Market?

In general, there are more good reviews than bad of the Skechers Burst line. And many of those reviews are happy with the Burst’s performance in terms of activity. They like the fact that they are lightweight and the cushioning and Air Cooled Memory Foam insole help keep their feet comfortable. They also like the open-knit mesh option that is available as it offers a good level of ventilation for the feet. Additionally, there is a good grip on the sole for both indoor and outdoor activities and in terms of durability, it has been reported that approximately a year can be gotten from the shoes even with daily use.

However, not everything is rosy in the Burst garden. For one thing, it is possible that the knit mesh may tear after heavy use. Also, options such as the Second Wind have a thinner sole, which does not offer enough support to those partaking in heavy weight training.

A Trendy Yet Out-There Design

Some elements of the Skechers Burst design will immediately have you thinking of more popular shoes in the same area. Take for instance the open knit uppers of the Burst and the Nike Flyknit line. Still, it is possible to compare all shoe brands and types at some level considering the influencer they have on one another. For the sake of this article, I will say that the similarities that you may see between the Burst and other shoes can be a testament to them being on trend. Let’s look instead at the Burst range in itself and the various aesthetics available.

Most of the Burst line comes in a lace-up form, besides the Up All Night, which are a slip-on shoe. The Up All Night also offer a mid-height bootie style in comparison to the standard sneaker height. Another option is the Seeing Stars high top. All in the line comes in the standard colors you would expect from shoes: red, black, navy, etc. Although, keep in mind that not all colors are available in all styles. For those who want something considering a bit more out there, they can choose from the sparking prints of Seeing Stars and the floral Fine Vine.

So, yes, there does seem to be a style for most people but there is one thing you should know if you are basing your purchase more on style rather than comfort. The material of the Burst and the overall look has been considered rather cheap looking in comparison to the offerings from Nike or Adidas.

A direct competitor from Nike would be the Tanjun Running Sneaker which is both highly fashionable and very comfortable.  You can check out our review of it here: https://www.purposefulfootwear.com/nike-tanjun-vs-roshe-run-review

Anything Else I Should Know?

There is one positive over other sneakers such as the Adidas Boost, Nike Flyknit and Adidas Primeknit where the Burst will wine every time – price. Burst definitely offer the most affordable price for these type of shoes on the market making it the best option for anyone who is not a “sneaker fanatic”.

This should not really affect your opinion on any shoe purchase but since some reviews have brought it up it might be worth mentioning. The packaging, or more so the cardboard box the Burst comes in, is very garish and in your face, tack some would say. For most of us the box will go in the garbage anyway, but for those who like to display, this might be a problem, yet a minuscule one, for you.

Pros of the Skechers Burst Line

  • The Air-Cooled Memory Foam insole allows feet to breath better. The insole can be removed, which can assist with comfort for people with ankle and pronation problems.
  • There is a large variety of styles and colors available to consumers.
  • The open knit mesh helps prevent wet feet due to excessive sweating.
  • There is a good grip on the sole, ideal for all types of indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Wearers have reported a lifespan of at least a year when wearing the shoes daily.

Cons of the Skechers Burst Line

  • The open knit mesh is a fine material which can tear following heavy wearing of the shoes.
  • Some options in the line, for instance, the Second Wind, have a thinner sole. This sole doesn’t give the support needed to those partaking in heavy weight training.

Conclusion

Did Skechers make an entirely outlandish claim when they called the Burst line “The Most Comfortable Shoe in the World”? Maybe. With bigger companies like Nike and Adidas also using similar technology and also getting rave reviews online in terms of comfort, there is no real support for this claim.

So, my research will not be given any awards for proving the claim but I can make my own claim: Skechers Burst is ONE of the most comfortable shoe lines on the market. Hundreds, maybe even thousands, positive online reviews can’t be wrong and it is not hard to see why consumers have fallen in love with Burst. How could any shoe with an Air Cooled Memory Foam insole, arch support and a knit design which helps cool the feet be in any way uncomfortable? Perfect for walking and sports, but maybe not as sturdy as other brands for heavier activities such as weightlifting, Skechers Burst can only benefit your life positively!
