Itasca Boots Review

Itasca makes footwear meant to be used outdoors, such as for hunting, fishing, hiking, skiing, and snow and waterproof boots. The company offers a wide variety of models for men, women, and kids. Some of the styles are even custom made.

Here is a sampling of Itasca footwear available today.

Itasca Men’s Swampwalker Rubber Boots

These Swampwalkers boots are constructed of waterproof all-natural rubber and come in dark green. They feature a convenient, adjustable side strap that allows for a customizable fit. These Swampwalkers are lightweight at 4.65lbs and the rubber outsole gives traction in different elements.  There is a removeable cushioned insole for extra comfort.

Itasca Men’s Bayou Everglades 12″

The 12 inch Bayou Everglades are constructed from 100% waterproof rubber and neoprene that don’t hold odors the way that leather does, so you won’t be advertising a scent to the waterfowl you are hunting.

A convenient rear pull tab makes the boots easy to slip on and off, while the removable insole provides additional comfort. The boot is only available in whole sizes, and it’s suggested that you order the next size up if you normally wear a half-size.

Itasca Men’s Cedar Ski Boot

Itasca seems to have a problem with ski boots. Almost all of the models have received a significant amount of complaints from buyers about durability, and even warmth – which is not the best reaction for a ski boot. The Cedar seems to be the only one that gets a decent measure of approval.

The Cedar has an easy lace-up system and features a waterproof TPR foot, as well as Thermolite™ insulation, to keep you warm and dry. A padded collar and removable insoles offer extra comfort.

Itasca Moccasin Men’s Nokasippi Moccasin Boot

This amazing 16″ knee-high boot is a custom handcrafted style offered by Itasca. While intended for indoor/outdoor use, it has a traditional soft sole of double sole construction for a barefoot feel.

The upper is full-grain cowhide that will become even more attractive as it ages, while the sole is made from buffalo hide. The combination provides the boot with more structure and makes it even more rugged in tone and style.

The tie-up laces are leather and there is a lightly padded synthetic insole. The sizing is generous, so the manufacturers suggest ordering up to a half-size smaller than usual unless you expect to wear heavy socks with them.

Moccasins are supposed to start off with a snug fit that will allow the leather to conform to the shape of your foot as it gets broken in. These boots are not insulated or waterproof, but customers seem to be unanimous in their approval.

Men’s Itasca Hip & Chest Waders

These Itasca Rubber Hip Waders are constructed from natural rubber and joined to a rubber boot. They are 100% waterproof, due to the seamless construction of vulcanization, which allows singular bonded molecules to work together to keep you dry even when spending long periods of time standing in water. This product is only available in full sizes.

Itasca Men’s Python Waterproof Safety Toe Boot

This Western Styled Safety Toe Work Boot provide your feet with maximum protection while allowing you to retain the look of a cowboy boot. This boot is completely waterproof and has a steel toe guaranteed to keep your feet safe on the job site.

Waterproof leather and nylon uppers, western styling, a steel toe, and ASTM certification – what more could you ask for in a work boot?

Itasca Men’s Contractor II Work Boots

The Contractor II Work Boots have a slip and oil-resistant rubber outsole that provides maximum durability and protection. Together with an ASTM rated safety toe, these work boots are meant to stand up to the toughest of conditions.

The oiled full-grain leather uppers are fully waterproof, yet breathable. Welted construction ensures durability. The padded collar and premium heavily-padded cushioned insole offer additional long-wearing comfort.

Itasca Men’s Lutsen Waterproof Outdoor Boot

Difficult weather conditions present no problem to Itasca’s Lutsen boot. The suede and nylon uppers are completely waterproof, while the padded collar and removable 3M™ Thinsulate insole offer additional all-day comfort. These are the outdoor boots that will keep your feet comfortable, warm and dry.

Itasca Men’s Tempest II Waterproof Hiking Boot

The Tempest II Hiking Boot features a fully waterproof construction, and EVA midsole for extra comfort and a high-traction outsole, which is everything you need to comfortably and safely explore the great outdoors.

Itasca Women’s Boots

Itasca seems to have an issue with quality when making women’s footwear. It is hard to find a model that gets more than an average of 3.5 stars out of 5 from buyers, and most complaints are about durability.

However, that average includes quite a few 4 and 5-star reviews, so your mileage may vary. The designs are very stylish, so they are certainly worth a shot. Plus, there are several new models that the public hasn’t had a chance to weigh in on yet, so there may be an improvement in the quality of new offerings.

Itasca Moccasin Women’s Nokasippi “Dark Grey” Moccasin Boot

Though you’ll be hard-pressed to find a meaningful number of opinions from women on this particular boot, the men’s version has achieved almost unanimous raves. It’s a custom-made boot, so that may well be the reason such high-quality is achieved.

This 16 inch boot has been available from Itasca for nearly three decades now, but they’ve updated it somewhat this year. The suede uppers are thick, but still supple, and they start to feel comfortable with almost no break-in period.

  • leather-and-synthetic
  • leather sole
  • Handcrafted, Made in USA
  • Color: Dark Grey suede and Black buffalo
  • Traditional soft sole for a barefoot feel
  • Double sole construction
  • Intended for indoor/outdoor use

The canoe-style sole structure offers a great barefoot feel. These are 3-season boots, meaning they can be worn comfortably year-round in warmer climates and spring through fall in northern climates. However, leather soles are slippery on snow and ice, so they aren’t really suitable for northern winters.

The style is versatile enough to be worn with pretty much anything from leggings or skinny jeans even to shorter length skirts.

The manufacturers suggest you order a half-size smaller than your normal shoe size unless you plan to wear them with heavy socks, because moccasins need to fit snugly at first so that the leather can conform to your specific foot shape as the boots start to break in. The double sole construction has a barefoot feel, but the lightly padded synthetic insole offers additional comfort.

Itasca Women’s Lutsen Leather Winter Boots

These Itasca Women’s Lutsen Leather Boots are both fashionable and functional. While designed for winter wear, these boots are good all around. They have a thick rubber outsole for protection and traction, 200g Thinsulate for great insulation, and a removable comfort cushion within.

Comfort, protection, and style, they have it all. That being said, these are ankle boots and might not be great for wear in locales that are particularly wet or sloppy. They’ll keep your feet warm and insulted, but from the ankle up you’re fair game.

Itasca Moccasin Women’s Trimbelle Moccasin Bootlet

One of the very few Itasca women’s models to receive unanimous 5-star approval, buyers have gushed about the quality and comfort of this women’s Bootie Moccasin. Constructed of 100% natural leather, this ankle bootlet with short fringe and buckle accent has been a constant best-seller.

Not only does it look fabulous with everything from leggings and jeans to skirts and shorts, but the lightly padded synthetic insole added to the traditional soft sole makes them amazingly comfortable as well. The back zipper also makes for an easy on and off.

Like moccasin boots, the manufacturers advise you to order a half-size smaller to provide a snug fit that will let the leather shape itself to your foot as the bootie starts breaking in.

Itasca Kids Boots

There are a wide variety of styles for kids from which to choose, for both boys and girls.

Itasca Misty Pony Kids Rubber Fashion Boots

Kids stay warm and dry with these adorable Misty Pony Kids Boots. They feature waterproof rubber construction with a cotton lining and rubber outsole that provides reliable traction. A convenient side cinch strap is adjustable for added comfort.

Itasca Kids Snow Scamp Boots

Snow Scamp Boots are designed for kids to safely enjoy playing outdoors in winter. They feature water-resistant nylon uppers, which include foam insulation to keep little legs and feet warm and dry. The outsole provides rugged traction to prevent slipping, while the pull-on design makes it easy for kids to put on and take off the boots without assistance.

There is a removable insole for added comfort. And these boots come with a 1-year warranty from the manufacturer.

Itasca Toddler Cerebus Winter Snow Boots

Toddlers need boots to walk around in the snow, too! And these slip-on boots allow them to do so safely. The water-resistant nylon uppers are lined for extra warmth and the rugged outsole helps prevent little feet from slipping. A front toggle makes the boots easy to put on and take off.

Itasca Youth Girl’s Ice Bandit Raspberry Pink Winter Snow Boots

The Ice Bandit is just one of the many cute styles offered by Itasca for girls. It offers waterproof suede and nylon uppers that have a removable insulated liner, as well as a TPR traction outsole to help prevent dangerous slipping and sliding. The front zipper makes for easy on and off,

Bottom Line

The custom-made boots from Itasca seem to be pretty much flawless, and customers rave about their quality and comfort. Ready-made models, however, seem to be plagued with issues regarding durability. Yet, it may still be worth risking a try, because a lot of the designs are extremely stylish and many buyers are perfectly satisfied with their purchasers.
